Samsara is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Identity and Access Management (IAM) team. This team is responsible for building secure, standards-based authentication and authorization features across our customer-facing products. IAM is core to protecting the data and identities of our customers while enabling a seamless user experience.

This role combines technical leadership and security expertise to drive Samsara’s IAM strategy at scale, supporting over 2.3 million connected devices worldwide. You will drive IAM feature development, ensure platform security, collaborate with Product and InfoSec teams, and drive compliance initiatives—shaping the company’s security posture while supporting critical global infrastructure.

As a manager, you’ll guide a globally distributed team, mentor engineers, and own critical infrastructure that supports compliance and platform integrity. You’ll also represent Samsara externally and work directly with customers when needed.

This is a remote position open to candidates based in the US.

You should apply if:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world: The software, firmware, and hardware you build will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • You want to build for scale: With over 2.3 million IoT devices deployed to our global customers, you will work on a range of new and mature technologies driving scalable innovation for customers across industries driving the world's physical operations.
  • You are a life-long learner: We have ambitious goals. Every Samsarian has a growth mindset as we work with a wide range of technologies, challenges, and customers that push us to learn on the go.
  • You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes.
  • You are a team player: Working on our Samsara Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we’re all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win—together.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead your team in driving the continual maturation of Samsara’s Identity and Access Management (IAM) functionality.
  • Define and shape the roadmap and long-term vision for IAM at Samsara.
  • Deliver scalable, secure, and reliable authentication and authorization functionality for our customer-facing products.
  • Solve complex security and compliance challenges with cross-functional impact.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Security leadership to meet key security and compliance goals.
  • Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing, inclusive, and globally distributed engineering team.
  • Represent Samsara in external security and industry forums.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and strategic decisions to senior leadership.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
  • Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of technical experience, including 3+ years managing engineers and leading high-performing teams.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in authentication and authorization in multi-tenant cloud platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with large-scale web services deployed on AWS, Azure, or similar.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Proven ability to deliver on roadmap goals and coach top engineering talent.
  • Experience defining and maintaining SLAs for critical infrastructure services.
  • Solid understanding of security vulnerabilities, exploits, and mitigations.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across diverse, cross-functional teams.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Experience building and shipping customer-facing software with a strong grasp of SDLC.
  • Background in developer tools, infrastructure, and productivity engineering.

  • Proficient in Golang, Python, or Terraform.
  • Understanding of security, compliance, and data privacy regulations.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills across engineering and product teams.
