Metabase’s BizOps & Finance team is looking to add a systems-minded generalist to help us run and scale our financial operations. This isn’t a traditional “finance” role: it’s about project-managing our external accountants and auditors, keeping financial processes running smoothly, and building systems that make our operations more efficient. If you enjoy bringing order to complexity, learning new concepts, and wearing many hats, this role could be a great fit.
The role offers significant exposure to the financial management of a rapidly growing company and the opportunity to contribute to the scaling of our financial functions. We are a small team, so you should be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in wherever needed.
Responsibilities
- Owning day-to-day financial operations, ensuring our processes run smoothly and accurately
- Overseeing the month-end-close process with our external accountants
- Project-managing and liaising with our external financial auditors
- Performing ad-hoc data analyses in support of tax submissions and making sure things stay on-track
- Own expense management and financial data hygiene
- Leading cross-functional projects to tackle operational problems as they arise
- Identifying opportunities to improve and automate financial workflows as we scale
- Getting stuck in where needed to solve business problems as they arise
About you
- You have strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail: you enjoy checking items off your checklist, and can seamlessly balance multiple threads of work
- You are comfortable getting to clarity by working through numerical problems. You can spot inconsistencies quickly, and enjoy getting to the right answer
- You are adept at managing vendors, building strong relationships, and delivering feedback when needed
- You like solving ambiguous problems and creating order from chaos
- You’ve gone beyond entry-level tasks and are looking for a role where you can grow by tackling new problems and taking initiative
- Based in the US or Canada
- Low-ego attitude: no job should be too small or too large
- Nice-to-have: some familiarity with accounting principles or coursework.
- Nice-to-have: some knowledge of SQL and / or a scripting language to help automate things (e.g. python, javascript, VBA)
