A large government organization in Seattle, WA is seeking a skilled Business Systems Analyst for a 6-8 week project. This role is predominantly remote, except for the initial day when you will collect your laptop. The position involves working on automating tax filing processes to improve accuracy, reduce compliance risks, and optimize staff time.

Responsibilities

  • Review current workflows for Leasehold Excise Tax (LET) and monthly excise tax filings.
  • Identify data sources such as lease agreements, financial systems, and ERP.
  • Document reporting frequencies, deadlines, and Department of Revenue (DOR) submission formats.
  • Design an automated solution to extract, reconcile, and calculate LET at the current rate.
  • Aggregate monthly excise tax data including Business & Occupation (B&O), sales, and use taxes.
  • Format data for DOR-compliant electronic submission.
  • Develop automation scripts, APIs, or RPA bots for generating and validating tax returns.
  • Log exceptions for audit purposes and conduct end-to-end testing with historical and current data.
  • Provide comprehensive user manuals and technical documentation.
  • Train internal staff on system use, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Essential Skills

  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in SQL, SOP, Pivot tables, PowerBi, Alteryx, Oracle Fusion, VBA's, and excise tax analysis.
  • Expertise in automation tools such as Alteryx, Power Automate, Python, etc.
  • Proficiency with complex accounting systems, particularly general ledger, accounts payable, billing, and accounts receivable modules.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of broad-based accounting, especially WA State taxes.
  • Strong data analytical skills of interrelationships and interdependencies between system tables, modules, and integrated systems.
