We’re seeking a curious, proactive problem solver to join our team as an Associate Data Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career professional to help build, improve, and scale Open’s data platform and pipelines that power smart decisions across the company.

You’ll work closely with senior data engineers, analysts, and product managers to ensure our data systems are accurate, reliable, and performant – and that Open’s data continues to be a source of truth that drives innovation and growth.

In this role, you will:

  • Help monitor and improve data quality through checks, alerts, and documentation.
  • Contribute to Open’s data warehouse architecture and ensure consistent data standards and definitions.
  • Support data ingestion, transformation, and loading processes that power analytics and machine learning.
  • Build, test, and maintain efficient and reliable data pipelines, data models using Python, SQL (DBT), and AWS tools.
  • Enable AI-driven insights by ensuring Open’s data is structured, high-quality, and ready for model training and experimentation
  • Participate in code reviews and learn best practices for data engineering at scale.Support data governance and compliance initiatives to ensure data is secure, accurate,
  • and regulatory-ready.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams of designers, engineers and data scientists, and be closely mentored by a Principal Data Engineer who leads data engineering at Open.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a relentless curiosity and high attention to detail.
  • Expert-level SQL and intermediate-level Python.
  • Solid understanding of data concepts such as Databases, ETL/ELT, data modelling, and APIs.
  • Exposure to cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills — you’ll work cross-functionally with multiple teams.
  • Driven by tenacity and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • 1–2 years of professional experience or relevant technical projects (internships welcome).
  • Insurance, fintech, or SaaS experience is a plus but not essential.
