As Senior Lead of Product Communications you will drive Shopify’s technology narrative and set the standard for how we talk about our products, tools, and services. You'll shape product and technology storytelling across traditional and emerging platforms, engaging with senior executives, developers, and influencers, while ensuring our messages make an impact and resonate globally.

Responsibilities

  • Deeply understand our product roadmap and craft clear, compelling messages that articulate our product vision.
  • Drive alignment on the development and execution of Shopify’s product communications strategy across diverse and innovative media channels, including emerging platforms.
  • Develop and execute communications strategies for product and feature launches and tirelessly uncover opportunities to tell our product and technology story during the moments in between.
  • Lead the communications strategy for Shopify Editions, setting strategy, delegating effectively and developing a sustained storytelling plan that sticks.
  • Oversee strategy for engineering communications, aiming and setting the bar for owned (Shopify Engineering Blog + @ShopifyEng X) and earned communications strategies that position Shopify at the bleeding edge of tech.
  • Partner closely with other members of the external communications team and colleagues across product, product marketing and legal. Be a collaborator that people seek out.
  • Proactively support and brief executives for media engagements, ensuring their messages are on-point and reflect Shopify’s vision.
  • Mentor, level-up, and coach External Communications team members; Model accountability for the campaigns you oversee; issues escalate to you.
  • Use AI and analytics to improve content and measure what sticks.
  • Cultivate deep relationships with top-tier journalists, creators, and industry influencers to elevate Shopify’s voice in the marketplace.

What we’re looking for:

  • 10+ years experience in product or technology communications, preferably with in-house experience at technology and product-led businesses
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful communications campaigns for launches and evergreen moments
  • Experience partnering with senior executives to shape strategy, secure buy-in, and prep them for interviews across traditional and emerging channels
  • Strong technical competence, capable of engaging with and simplifying complex information for diverse audiences, including developers
  • Experience mentoring or coaching others to elevate communications standards
  • Media-savvy, with an eye for leveraging unconventional channels and innovations in communication
  • Self-reliant problem solver who works fast and does more with less
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
